Divine Sleep Yoga Nidra is guided meditation that guides and relaxes you at every level of being including your physical energetic, emotional, and spiritual levels. Through the use of breath awareness, body scanning, healing music and nature imagery, it invites you to become aware of each layer of being without needing to change or fix anything. This is true meditation where there is nothing to do but to ‘notice’–supporting you in feeling whole and empowered just as you are. This contemporary practice is based on ancient yogic wisdom and meditation to make a tool for modern day life.
How does it work? Yoga Nidra is a switch that turns off the ‘fight or flight’ stress response and turns on the parasympathetic nervous system and the ‘relaxation response’–the body’s natural healing state. This allows your body the necessary time it needs to integrate, heal, slow the aging process and prevent illness. Research conducted at Stanford, Walter Reed, Ohio State, Bandaras University and others shows that regular yoga nidra practice may prevent or reverse conditions including: insomnia, cardiovascular issues, stress, respiratory conditions, diabetes, pain, metabolic conditions, trauma and psychosomatic conditions.
Please bring bring yoga mats, or whatever you need to be comfy if you will be on the floor, but you can also do this in a chair if you wish. I’m looking forward to sharing this! It’s a great way to end your weekend!
Yoga Nidra Instructor
My journey into mindfulness and meditation started with a commitment to do five minute meditations daily as part of a research project for graduate school. Less than two weeks after beginning, I was amazed to see the differences wrought in my life from such a small amount of time dedicated to mindfulness.
Over the course of a semester I continued to research, study, and practice different types of meditation; then I was introduced to Yoga Nidra and fell in love. Yoga Nidra (or “yogic sleep”) is a state between sleep and consciousness that is instrumental in facilitating deep emotional and physical healing. After two years of receiving the benefits of my own practice of Yoga Nidra on a regular basis, I became certified to lead Divine Sleep Yoga Nidra (a form of Yoga Nidra created by Jennifer Reis, Kripalu) so I can share its benefits with others.
